Introduction

For most of us the weather is only an issue when it comes to deciding each morning what and to wear, or perhaps when considering where to take a holiday. Is it cold or is it hot? Will it rain or be windy? At other times it becomes a consideration only when there is something unusual taking place, such as a period of extreme heat or a storm. It is perhaps the most common topic of conversation in many places. Increasingly, we have become interested in the weather as we read about and experience more unusual effects.
Had Captain Edward Smith understood how El Nino turns global weather patterns on their head, Titanic may have survived it's maiden voyage. In 1912 the planet was in the grip of this cyclical phenomenon, which can produce parched rainforests and verdant deserts. It was also responsible for the unusually powerful notherlies with drew the iceberg much further south than usual, with catastrophic conequences for the 'unsinkable' liner.

More coming soon. Keep watch for updates!
